Carrying a Legacy Forward

Isela Sandoval-Luis, a freshman majoring in computer science at Milwaukee School of Engineering, is already making the most of her college experience. In addition to pursuing her passion for technology, app development and web design, she stays active on campus as a member of the women’s tennis team and the AASU student organization, building community and leadership along the way.

Recently, Sandoval-Luis attended the United States Hispanic Leadership Institute (USHLI) Conference in Chicago—an event that is especially meaningful for her family. While there, she shared with her faculty advisors that her parents actually met at the very same conference and celebrated their 25th anniversary on Feb. 17.

When conference organizers learned about this special connection, they invited Sandoval-Luis to sit at the head table for dinner, where she had the opportunity to meet Dr. Juan Andrade Jr., the founder of the organization.
